Itinerary One Day in HongKong

Hello, my lovely readers! It is so good to be able to sit down and share with you again! As you know travel is one of my life’s passion. I have been always wanting to visit this country since I was young but never have a chance. Mostly because the cost of living is pretty high in Hong Kong and none of my friends find it interesting. As I always say, a suitable travel partner is really hard to find but thank God I made it! So last year I got the opportunity to spend a few days in Hong Kong with my husband and his friends, a country that’s been on my bucket list for a while.

Flight with AirAsia is not as easy as I have thought. We arrived in Hong Kong very late because our flight got delayed for 1 hour. After arriving in Hong Kong, we headed straight to the hotel by MTR (The Mass Transit Railway).

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel LBP during our visit to Hong Kong. This hotel is a great choice for travelers who are looking for a cheap price. The hotel itself has a very modest design with a lobby, lounge and small outdoor space on the 4th floor. The place is not super close to the subway station but is convenient enough, and the room is a little small, but it is comfortable.

When we were doing our research on delicious food in Hong Kong for lunch, we came across the Kau Kee restaurant (九記牛腩). After reading all the great reviews for Kau Kee, we took time to go to this restaurant. This place serves delicious beef tendons and brisket in clear broth or curry, which comes with many different types of noodles. Located in a tiny space in Central’s Gough Street, it’s pretty hard to miss considering a crowd of hungry be swarming that joint all day, every day.

Please be prepared to queue, especially on weekends, but don't worry queue generally moves fast since people only eat and go. It's stressful to sit around after you are done with your food, especially when there's a long queue! We queued for 1 hour as it the weekday and many people come for lunch.

We quickly scooted over to an empty table and ordered. Once seated, you choose your dishes and drinks off a menu and someone will come and take your order. Be prepared to sit in a crowded cramped place with strangers on the same table.

I can’t say I’m a big fan of noodle, but I want to give it a try. I ordered Beef Brisket with (dry) E-Fu Noodle in Oyster Sauce served with Broth. This dish is served with the soup on the side so you can add as much or as little broth as you want to your noodles. If you’re in Hong Kong for a day or two, this is one of the must-visit food places.

My husband ordered Beef Brisket with Rice Noodle in Broth. The flat rice noodles are good too. The soup is really clear and tasty. The beef brisket is very tender and easy to eat.

The worst lemon tea I've ever drunk in my life. I feel like taking medicine instead of drinking lemon tea. It tastes very bitter and smells weird.

After we finished our food we moved to Sing Heung Yuen 勝香園. We spot this restaurant when we lunch at Kau Kei Beef Noodles. It is just located opposite the famous “Kau Kei Beef Noodles” 九记牛腩. This restaurant is famous for tomato noodles and their unique crispy toast so we wanted to give it a try. There are a lot of people queue to eat here but we are lucky that we just queue for 20 minutes.

This is a 'dai pai dong' or outdoor restaurant and it is full of crowded so you need to sit with others quite close. Their service was a bit slow so you really have to shout to get the staff to notice you. The bill is paid after you finished the food and the Aunt will come to count how much and ask you pay.

My husband and I ordered a bowl of tomato soup noodle, and a set of toast bread with condensed milk, and a set of toast bread with kaya to share.

And here comes the main dish, something that we’ve waited for! Sing Heung Yuen’s signature tomato noodle soup is a simple dish, basically a mixture of instant noodles, canned tomatoes, freshly cooked tomatoes, topped with various ingredients.

You can choose the type of noodles such as instant noodles, rice noodles or macaroni, added with sides of ham, luncheon meat, sausage, bacon, eggs, pork chop, sliced beef, etc. My husband and I prefer noodles with egg and bacon as we thought the bacon compliment the broth pretty perfectly.

The soup broth has a tinge of instant noodle seasoning taste but also cooked in other ingredients that I can’t figure out. It’s really unique in flavor while it’s scattered with tomato pieces cooked so soft that it easily melts in your mouth. The tomato taste is not too overpowering and I’m still able to taste the sweetness of the broth that would whet an appetite. Well, I wouldn't say this tomato noodle it's the best, but it's still a satisfying bowl.

A set of toast bread with condensed milk. The toasted bread with condensed milk is tasty, sweet, crispy inside out. I highly recommend you try it and I'm sure you won't regret it.

A set of toast bread with kaya. The toasted bread is crispy inside out, layered with condensed milk and kaya, but I can't feel the taste of kaya jam at all and I can only taste sweet from condensed milk. They are stingy with the spread of kaya. This must be one of the worst kaya toast around.

This Iced Honey Lemon Drink, is a popular thirst quencher in Hong Kong, it is delicious and refreshing. I highly recommend you order this drink if you are in this restaurant.

Exit from MTR Sheung Wan (A2 exit) or Central (D2 exit), and walk towards Gough Street. Then as you see Kau Kee beef noodles, you will see Sing Heung Yuen on the opposite side of the street. After we finished eating we headed to Jenny Bakery to buy a very famous and authentic cookie in Hong Kong. We went there to check out what's so great about their cookies. Can be tricky to find the place but kudos to the bakery in taking the initiative of posting a video on how to get to their store. There might be a long queue but the process is quick, so you don't have to wait that long. It takes about 15 minutes to reach my turn.

There are big menus on the wall so you can pick what you want to buy while waiting in the line. As soon as we bought, we couldn't wait to open the box and try them.

We bought 2 small boxes. The cookies are in nice dainty tins and with the cute bear on the front, looks great as a gift.

The fresh ingredients of butter, milk, sugar into these cookies bring the aroma around it. Definitely the best butter cookies I've eaten so far. Buttery and light, yet does not give you the overpowering taste of butter. Butter ones taste better than coffee ones. This is a must try whenever you’re in Hong Kong though somewhat pricey.

After we finished to buy the cookies we wanted to look around the city of Hongkong. We love walking around a city that we’ve never been to before, meet new people from other countries and we get to explore so many of the city’s sights. However, during our trip to Hong Kong, we didn’t have much time to explore and we didn’t want to be hauled up on the MTR for half the day so exploring the city by open-top bus seemed perfect.

While on the way we saw The Hong Kong State Observation Wheel. The Hong Kong Observation Wheel is a 60-meter tall Ferris wheel located at the Central Harbourfront, Central, Hong Kong.

This time I can only see The Hong Kong State Observation Wheel through the window, but one day I will return to this place and see the Hong Kong State Observation Wheel closed.

We decided to take the Big Bus Tour. Taking a bus tour is a good idea because if you’re just walking around you may end up tripping or walking into traffic.

It is an enjoyable way to discover all the different highlights as you traverse among the skyscrapers and the busy harbor, through bustling street markets and colorful temples, and along the beautiful coastline.

They also have a great open-air top deck, which gives you panoramic views and lets you enjoy the weather if it’s good outside. Unfortunately, on that day, the weather was very bad and there was heavy rain in Hong Kong.

Sky Terrace 428 - Peak Tram is our next destination. On that day it was a cold day with spitting rain, and the waiting queue was insane too, but in my opinion, it's worth it and we were lucky to wait only 20 minutes.

The Sky Terrace is a place where you can get a great view of Hong Kong where the location is 428 meters above sea level. The Sky Terrace 428 is the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong offering a stunning 360-degree panoramic view across Hong Kong.

For tourists, there are many ways to visit Victoria Peak, you can walk up but the peak tram is easy and you get a great view! The Peak tram is the steepest funicular Railway in the world. The tram is decked out all old-fashioned with wooden seats and antique fixtures.

If you have bought the SkyPass, head to the Sky Terrace 428 observatory to get the best view and a Panoramic view of the cityscape. Sky Terrace 428 is undoubtedly one of the most unique and interesting places to visit in Hong Kong.

It’s the highest viewing place in Hong Kong and offers the most stunning open-air views of the city. We can't stay here longer because the rain is getting heavier. After we finished taking photos, we decided to visit the Trick Eye Museum (free with iVenture card) while we were there.

At the Sky Terrace, they do offer photography service too where you can have your pictures taken from the peak with small charges.

The Trick Eye Museum in Hong Kong is located at the Peak Galleria Mall and it has over 70 photo points. This is one of those museums that you can interact with the artwork.

It features paintings on plain surfaces that appear 3D on camera through an optical illusion. Feel free to lay down, climb, sit or stand on them.

We had so much fun in Trick Eye Museum and we spent most of the time laughing and just being silly.

After checking out the view, having a walk around the Peak, and playing the Trick Eye Museum, we took the tram back down. All day we walked, and we were tired so we decided to go back to the hotel by taxi.
